DAY 2: KAMPALA – SEZIBWA FALLS

After your breakfast, head to The Kings palace to hear the Riddles, myths, legends, and proverbs tell the origin and history of the Baganda, as well as the workings of the everyday world. Hear about the Baganda indigenous (native) religion known as the Balubaale cult which consisted of gods who had temples identified with them. These gods were each concerned with specific problems like god of fertility, a god of warfare, and a god of the lake or spiritual forces that caused illness and other misfortune. People often wore amulets (charms) to ward off their evil powers. The Balubaale cult no longer exists. However, belief in ancestors and the power of witches is still quite common.

Contemporary Baganda are extremely religious, whatever their faith. Visit some of the Cathedrals: Rubaga and Namirembe and Old Kampala Mosque Later Visit the Museum before proceeding to Sezibwa Falls are approximately (32 km), east of Kampala, along the Kampala-Jinja Highway. The site is a Buganda Heritage Site. It is marked with an out-span of sharp-edged rocks and the magnificent sound of soothing waters flowing down the steep ridged stones.

According to traditional legend, the two rivers named Sezibwa and its brother Bwanda were born by a woman on her way to Kavuma Bukunja. The woman, Nakkungu Tebatuusa, whose husband was called Nsubuga Sebwaato, gave birth to twins in form of water, whereupon Sezibwa flowed west, passing many obstacles and deriving its name, while Bwanda flowed east, toward Nyenga. Many people come to the place for miracles as they believe the site has supernatural powers. The falls are 7 metres (23 ft) high and the harmony of bird songs above the trees creates a beautiful scenery for relaxation and enjoyment.

In the afternoon, visit the amazing Amabere Ganyina Mwiru (the famous stalagmites and stalactites that look like cow breasts) approximately 10 kilometers away from Fort Portal town. At the sites, with guides go down to the caves. The steaming sound of waterfalls and cold breeze at the entrance welcomed us. To the locals, the name of the caves is based on a historical myth whose origin is widely believed by them that the breast-like pointed pillars were as a result of Bukuku’s beautiful daughter, Nyina Mwiru fleeing to this place in protest of her father’s refusal to allow her to marry a man of her choice.

Bukuku who was a very rich man served as a chief in the legendary Batembuzi dynasty that is the current Babiito kings of Tooro and Bunyoro kingdoms. It is said that “In anger and frustration, Nyina Mwiru decided to cut off her breasts at this spot.”
